Just installed Mac OS X 10.6 on my home iMac. It was truly a perfectly painless experience…click about 4 buttons and type your password and walk away for 45 minutes.

The only thing that marred the experience was a nasty and undying popup for installing Rosetta so it could run NotificationExec. Click Not Now and it just comes back a few seconds later. Truly annoying!

A couple minutes on Google yielded this form post on MacRumors.

The answer for me was to navigate to /Library/Driver Support/ and to trash the NotificationExec.app in between the popups.

So, the steps are:

Navigate to: /Library/Driver Support/ – you should see NotificationExec.app in that folder

Go to Force Quit (Apple menu) and make sure there aren’t any instances of the popup hanging out

Wait for the popup and click: “Not Now”

Then trash: NotificationExec.app

You may have to enter your admin password so you can change Finder

Empty trash and resume life!

Hope that helps!

Cheers,
Byron

Welcome back to part 3….and 4 of the video series on how to host a WordPress plugin using Aptana and Subclipse to accomplish the Subversion gymnastics. If you haven’t already done so, check out Part 1 and Part 2 of this series now.

At this point, you should already have an email from WordPress with a URL to your plugin’s WordPress SVN repository. You should also have downloaded and installed Aptana and Subclipse. If so, you’re now ready for the fun stuff…the basic steps from here on out are:

Check out your “trunk” folder from your WordPress SVN repository

Create a local version of the repository

Import your plugin’s files into the local repository

Synchronize (Commit) your plugin files back to the remote repository

I’ve had to break this last section of the video into 2 parts for 2 reasons, 1) Screen Toaster is having some issues right now and you’re limited to 4 minutes of audio; 2) apperantly, I’m long winded.

Really, it doesn’t get any easier than this. I spent hours trying to figure this out, and you should be able to get the whole scoop in 16 minutes (four 4-minute videos )

Checkout Trunk from your Remote WordPress SVN Repository

Here’s part 3:

Free online screen recorder

Uploading your Plugin Files from the Local Repository

Here’s the 4th and final part:

This post departs from WhyPad’s usual fare, but when history is being made, you must wade into the river before it passes you by.

Today, America and the world stand together in the midst of economic, political, and social ruin. It would be unfair to blame this on any one person, nation, religion, or lack thereof. We are all culpable to some extent, and it will take all of us to turn back this dark tide. But also today, here in the midst of this dark time, America is holding out the epitome of the American dream with the inauguration of Barack Obama as our 44th president.

There are those who think Barack Obama will save the world, and that’s not hyperbole. But to lay that expectation at his feet is just as unfair as saying that the current crises were caused by one man. President Obama represents hope, not because he has the answers or power to do what must be done. He represents hope because he represents the collective will of the American people to do what is right. Anyone of us who abdicates his duty to do what is right in the time of need is abdicating his right to be American. For where there is freedom, there is responsibility.

Let us hope that our leaders can rise above the political exigencies of re-elections and special interests and the myriad other temptations of political life, and rather follow the examples of men and women like those detailed in John F. Kennedy’s, Profiles in Courage.

Let us stand together with the world to ensure that the American Dream is not just America’s dream, or Martin Luther King, Jr.’s dream, or my dream, or your dream, but that it is a dream for all peoples of the world.

May God bless Barack Obama. May God bless America. And may God bless the world, for we are truly citizens together, linked in ways we barely can imagine.

Byron

I have been keeping an eye on the development of WordPress 2.7 which brings in several new and very cool features. A lot of that is behind the scenes in the Admin section, but some of it will be readily available. A new system for Comments is one of the features I’ve been excited about.

So, a big congratulations! to the WordPress Team! Here’s their write-up on the release. They’ve worked really hard, and I’m jazzed to see what all it holds. I’ll be upgrading soon. This will also be a test to see if my first publicly released WordPress theme, Contender, survives the upgrade without needing a fix

Cheers!
